About Us

Star Union Spirits, in Peru, IL, is a premier distillery serving Peru, Peoria, Bloomington, La Salle, Chicago, Joliet and surrounding areas since 2018, and now an additional 39 states! We specialize in producing handcrafted artisan spirits using non-GMO Midwestern grains and seasonally-available grapes from California and South America. Our facility is a great location for weddings, birthdays, engagements and parties and we also offer distribution to restaurants, bars and retailers. We love finding these local craft distilleries because they do things different than the big corporate distillery and Star Union Spirits is no exception. It's obvious they take great pride in their products and it shows in the results. Their 75-25 Whiskey is very good but I personally think their Bottled-in-Bond Rye is one of the best rye whiskeys I've had. The higher proof gives it a punch that makes you pay attention and the long pepper finish reminds you why everyone should love drinking a good rye. Full disclosure- I did end up buying a bottle of each for my home bar. I also want to thank the bartender for being creative with building a grapefruit vodka cocktail and the owner for taking the time to give us an in-depth tour and tell us history about the history of the place. Highly recommend as a destination for a day trip or just stop by an impromptu happy hour.

My wife and I are always on the lookout for good places to have a cocktail and came across Star Union Spirits while looking on Yelp. It's located in Peru, Illinois, which is only an hour drive for us. Star Union Spirits is located in the historic Westclox factory. Our bartender Kieran (I'm probably wrong on the spelling, so sorry), was awesome. She explained the different spirits they had and let us sample a few and according to my wife, made an excellent Old Fashioned. I got a flight of their different bourbons, which were all excellent. I bought a bottle of the 75-25 Light whiskey and a T-shirt of course. Our bartender also gave us a brief tour of the distillery, which was very interesting. Overall, this place is awesome and I'm glad we stopped in. This is a place that we will visit again in the near future.

Damn place has too many selections that are not really selections because everything tasted so good I had to stop tasting or I would have had to buy them out and my credit card only allows so much before it reports me to my wife. I do NOT like bourbon. Yet, somehow, tasting theirs made me decide that it is just some bourbons I don't like. And may I also add, that I do not like rum as a sipping drink, it only belongs in a coke as a teenager. Their rum (specifically the navy strength rum) holy cow, a perfect sipping "whiskey." NOW, I come to the liquors I like, nay love, as life itself. Scotch whiskey...... they don't make it..... ok then my other favorite nectar of the gods, TEQUILA.... Specifically repasado or anejo. In this case, theirs is called "rested tequila." It is sweet for tequila, but only for "unsweetened tequila" meaning no added BS or sugar (which surprisingly some big labels use.) it has a profile similar but BETTER and less sweet than Casamigos repasado. It is really VERY good, not astringent and deceptively smooth so that it could be dangerous, time will tell. This place is worth a 20-30 mile detour to check out their tasting room and cave like atmosphere. It is a shame we were not at this place 40 years ago when I could have lit up a cigar. Oh well.

Stopped in on a Saturday after hiking at Starved Rock. Excellent cocktails, fantastic staff, very friendly spot. Dog friendly & comfortable environment with extensive cocktail menu (all of which are well-made, at least the ones we tried). Highly recommend.
